Located within Istanbul Airport (İGA), this massive industrial facility stands as the most tangible proof of our innovative vision and unwavering construction expertise in the construction sector. ABOUT THE PROJECT

Strategically located within the Istanbul Airport (İGA) complex, the DHL Gateway project spans a total enclosed area of 46,700 square meters and is designed to serve as one of the most critical hubs in the global logistics network. In the construction of this massive industrial facility, advanced ground improvement techniques capable of supporting heavy loads and raft foundation systems resistant to high-tonnage operations were employed. To ensure the seamless progression of cargo sorting and storage processes, the building’s structural framework was supported by wide-span steel construction systems, thereby creating column-free, expansive operational areas. By incorporating seismic isolator principles into the structural design, the building’s rigidity and flexibility have been optimally balanced to withstand potential ground movements.

PROJECT DETAILS

As NESSA Construction, we successfully completed deep ground improvement operations for the DHL Gateway project despite the challenging site conditions. We produced industrial floor slabs reinforced with high-corrosion-resistant rebar capable of withstanding the dynamic loads generated by heavy logistics vehicles. We erected the building’s main framework using heavy-duty steel construction and precision assembly processes to ensure maximum resistance against wind and seismic loads. We integrated the complex electromechanical infrastructure network—which forms the heart of the facility—along with smart fire detection and suppression systems, high-capacity ventilation systems, and energy automation lines, all in full compliance with international aviation standards. We achieved thermal optimization by using sandwich panel insulation systems for the exterior facade and roof cladding, and we delivered this massive turnkey project flawlessly through our superior engineering expertise.

This operation, carried out within the vast airport campus, was an extremely complex engineering challenge that required ensuring both aviation security and logistical continuity simultaneously. Working within tight tolerances and under strict procedures, we optimized our supply chain through hourly planning to perfect material logistics and successfully implemented the principle of zero time loss on-site.

In response to the severe wind loads and dynamic airport ground conditions we encountered during the project, we developed innovative, permanent solutions—such as hybrid steel designs and advanced ground anchoring techniques—rather than relying on traditional methods. To completely eliminate technological conflicts, we integrated all architectural, structural, and electromechanical disciplines into a single model using BIM (Building Information Modeling) infrastructure, thereby eliminating risks in the digital environment before even setting foot on-site. By successfully navigating this challenging process through our commitment to sustainability, strict adherence to timelines, and unwavering commitment to quality, we have once again demonstrated our engineering expertise in cargo terminal construction.
